Legal Counsel Manager - Florida Region
 
Location: South Florida metro (on-site)
Compensation: $155K–$170K base + annual bonus structure + benefits
 
Overview Our client is a well-established U.S. financial institution with a growing Florida regional operation and corporate headquarters outside the state. The Florida region manages a multi-billion-dollar commercial and residential loan portfolio, supports a growing regional workforce, and is actively expanding into additional markets within the state. We are seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel Manager to lead all legal activities for the Florida region, advise senior leadership, and reduce reliance on external counsel by bringing more work in-house.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead all legal activities for the Florida region — commercial and residential loan closings, real estate transactions, employment law, regulatory matters, and contract review.
• Manage the foreclosure litigation portfolio and negotiate REO property sales.
• Review, analyze, and respond to subpoenas, writs of garnishment, notice of levies, and fraud matters.
• Provide legal counsel on internal investigations, employment, compensation, and benefits.
• Manage outside counsel relationships and reduce external spend by handling more matters in-house.
• Advise regional management on legal risk and policy; escalate to corporate when appropriate.
• Direct legal staff and prepare internal training sessions.
• Represent the bank in business, government, and community activities.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited U.S. law school.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible legal counsel experience representing a financial institution.
• Florida Bar admission (or admitted and willing to sit, by arrangement).
• Fully bilingual English/Spanish — write, speak, and comprehend.
• Direct experience with commercial and residential loan documentation, foreclosure litigation, regulatory matters, and legal process response.

Preferred Qualifications

• In-house legal experience at a bank or major financial institution.
• Prior law firm experience in commercial financing, real estate, or banking practice.
• Supervisory experience over junior counsel, paralegals, or legal operations staff.

Skills Strong analytical and negotiation skills, sound judgment under pressure, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and general business and banking knowledge.
Work Environment On-site, full-time. Flexible work schedule. Some travel within the Florida region.
