Social Media Specialist
We’re looking for a Social Media Specialist to lead and deliver engaging, high-quality social media content and campaigns that bring BRANZ’s research, expertise and services to life.
About BRANZ
Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ), through building with science, they provide practical research, testing, quality assurance and expertise to improve New Zealander’s lives. Their aspiration is to deliver affordable, resilient, sustainable and quality buildings for Aotearoa New Zealand.

Their research and testing facilities in Porirua can simulate fire, earthquakes and extreme weather at scale and in close-to-realistic conditions, and can accelerate the impacts of decades of weather, UV, corrosion and daily use. This work is essential in keeping New Zealanders safe for generations to come.
For over 50 years, BRANZ has been based in Judgeford, just north of Wellington. They employ more than 100 highly qualified scientists, researchers and professionals, supported by well-equipped laboratories and a collaborative working environment.
About the role
Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Team Leader, this role is responsible for developing and delivering BRANZ’s social media presence and performance.
You will create and manage engaging, high-quality content across our social media channels, translating complex building science research into accessible and compelling stories for a range of audiences.
The role includes working closely with researchers, scientists and subject matter experts to identify content opportunities, as well as engaging with our online community and supporting broader marketing campaigns.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating, scheduling and publishing engaging content across platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
- Translating technical research and testing outputs into clear, accessible and engaging content
- Developing and executing social media campaigns aligned with organisational goals
- Monitoring and engaging with online audiences to foster positive relationships and protect brand reputation
- Producing video and multimedia content to showcase BRANZ’s research, testing and industry leadership
- Analysing performance metrics and providing insights to improve future content and campaigns
- Supporting the development and implementation of a strategic social media plan
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to deliver integrated communications initiatives
What we need from you
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media or a related field
- Proven experience in a Social Media Specialist or similar role
- Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences and platforms
- Demonstrated experience creating engaging social media content and sourcing stories from across an organisation
- A solid understanding of social media platforms, trends, algorithms and best practice
- Experience using social media management and analytics tools
- Ability to create visually engaging content, including basic design and video content
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
- A proactive, creative approach and a genuine interest in translating complex information into engaging content
What BRANZ offer BRANZ has a large, modern campus in Judgeford, a rural setting just 5 minutes from the Transmission Gully Pāuatahanui interchange and approximately 30 minutes from Wellington city.
They offer a collaborative and supportive working environment. Their team culture is friendly and down-to-earth, and we have an active social club and great access to outdoor activities like walking and biking.
This role is for ongoing permanent employment, with a salary range of $90,000 to $110,000, dependent on skills and experience, based on a normal working week of 37.5 hours.
