The Veteran Services department is embedded in the veteran and Defence community, delivering extensive services and support that helps veterans and their families in Queensland and nationally to thrive. Striving to provide all veterans and their families with a streamlined, supportive and empowering experience after leaving the Australian Defence Force is at the centre of what we do. The department also supports RSL Queensland’s 10 Districts and network of more than 230 Sub-Branches across the state.
The Education and Skills Consultant supports the Head of Vocational Programs and Senior Manager Higher Education in the delivery of the RSL Education and Skills Program nationally. This means supporting veterans and partners to explore pre-study and employment pathways, ensuring they are equipped with information to make an informed decision on their studies and/or career pathways.
In this role, you will have the proven ability to:
- apply your specialist expertise to identify, assess, and support clients with expert advice inhouse and following external servicing
- enable clients to navigate the educational landscape and build functioning relationships with education providers on clients’ behalf
- apply contemporary knowledge of the labour market in addition to higher education options for the purposes of career counselling
- work autonomously or as part of a team to deliver accurate operational services in a fast-paced work environment
- make genuine professional connections with clients across all career levels
- prioritise and meet competing deadlines, underpinned by an established record of exercising judgement and initiative
- effectively interact with clients, show empathy and work in highly sensitive environments while maintaining professional boundaries and achieving outcomes
- apply your high-level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills as you build rapport and maintain working relationships
- deliver employment workshops, briefings and information sessions to clients and/or stakeholders
This position is based in across two offices - Fortitude Valley and in our Veteran and Family Wellbeing Centre in Stafford. There will be some work from home flexibility depending on business requirements.
You will also possess:
- Degree qualifications in either Education, Rehabilitation, Allied Health, Human Services, or Social Services (underway or completed)
- Certificate IV in Career Development or equivalent (or the commitment to undertake during employment)
- Solid case management experience and detail-orientation
- Knowledge of the higher education landscape
- Outstanding organisational and administrative skills
- Must have confident and proficient in use of Microsoft Office
- Queensland Open Driver licence (must)
