Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Communications Advisor to play a key role in shaping brand reputation, driving media engagement, and delivering communications that genuinely connect with students, stakeholders, and the broader community.
This is a hands-on, influential role for someone who thrives at the intersection of media, messaging, and relationships.
The role at a glance
Reporting to the PR & Communications Manager, you’ll sit within a high-performing Marketing team that acts as the organisation’s brand guardian. You’ll work closely with campaigns, digital, events, and business partnering teams to deliver smart, timely, and impactful communications.
The role is based at the Elgar campus, with regular work across CBD, Lilydale, and other campuses as needed.
What you’ll be doing
Media & communications leadership
- Develop and deliver media and communications strategies that lift brand awareness and protect reputation
- Build strong relationships with journalists and media outlets to secure positive coverage
- Write and distribute media releases, statements, articles, blogs, and thought leadership content
- Plan and manage media events including interviews, press conferences, and media briefings
- Monitor media coverage, spot risks and opportunities, and produce clear weekly media reports
- Support issues and crisis management with calm, accurate, and strategic communications
Content that connects - Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to shape compelling stories
- Develop communications plans for faculties to improve engagement and manage potential issues
- Create student-focused communications across external channels
- Identify and develop student and alumni profile stories for publication
Brand & reputation stewardship - Champion brand consistency, tone, and standards across all communications
- Track channel effectiveness and continuously refine communications strategy
- Identify new opportunities to strengthen corporate image across media, online, and social platforms
Team contribution - Act as a trusted advisor to the broader Marketing team
- Support student recruitment and experience events when required
- Advocate for brand values in every piece of work you deliver
What you’ll bring Qualifications - Degree (or post-graduate qualification) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, plus substantial relevant experience
Experience & expertise - 7+ years’ experience in media relations, PR, or corporate communications
- Proven success delivering media campaigns and securing positive coverage
- Strong understanding of print, broadcast, and digital media landscapes
- Experience in crisis and issues management (highly regarded)
- Knowledge of the education or training sector is strongly preferred
