Kaiarataki - Cancer Screening Navigator
Help increase early cancer detection for whānau
                                                                                                                                     
Turuki Health Care is a kaupapa Māori organisation delivering integrated health, wellbeing and social services across Tāmaki Makaurau. Our mission is to provide high quality, accessible and affordable healthcare to whānau, with a dedicated focus on equity and culturally responsive care.
  
We are looking for passionate and community focused Kaiarataki - Cancer Screening Navigators (x2) to join a new Cancer Hub service based in Māngere. In this role you will support whānau across Counties Manukau to access breast, cervical and bowel cancer screening, helping increase early detection and improve outcomes for Māori and Pacific communities. This role is fulltime, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm.
  
Te whiwhinga mahi – The opportunity
  
This is an opportunity to work directly in the community, supporting people who are not currently participating in regular cancer screening to access life-saving services. Your mahi will focus on establishing trusted relationships, strengthening health literacy and reducing barriers so whānau can confidently participate in screening programmes.
  
Your mahi will include:

• Supporting individuals and whānau referred to the Cancer Screening Service
• Connecting with whānau kanohi ki te kanohi in homes, clinics and community settings
• Providing clear, culturally grounded information about breast, cervical and bowel screening
• Supporting enrolment, appointments and follow-up through screening programmes
• Identifying and addressing barriers such as transport, cost, childcare or fear
• Promoting screening through outreach, community events and wānanga
• Connecting whānau to health, social and community support services
• Advocating for whānau with health providers and screening services
• Developing collaborative relationships with GP clinics, Turuki teams and community partners
• Maintaining case notes, data collection and reporting requirements

You are passionate about working in the community and supporting whānau to take positive steps toward their health and wellbeing. You enjoy engaging with people and helping them find practical solutions.
  
Ideally you will bring:

• Experience in health promotion, community health, outreach, navigation, or social services
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills
• Confidence engaging with whānau in homes and community settings
• Ability to explain health information in a clear and supportive way
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage a caseload
• Understanding of kaupapa Māori and whānau-centred approaches
• Commitment to improving Māori and Pacific health outcomes
• Emotional resilience and ability to work with sensitive situations
• Good computer skills and willingness to learn new systems
• Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand

  
Experience with cancer screening programmes or health systems is an advantage but not essential.
  
The ability to speak Te Reo Māori or a Pacific language is highly advantageous.
