Nga Hau Birthing Centre delivers primary birthing services through a kaupapa Maaori and Pasifika lens, grounded in a holistic model of care that recognises the wellbeing of whaanau across physical, cultural, spiritual and social dimensions.
Through the partnership between Turuki Health Care and Tagata Moana Maternity Trust, Nga Hau provides integrated, community-led services designed to support whaanau throughout their maternity journey.
Te whiwhinga mahi – The opportunity
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Operations Manager to lead Nga Hau Birthing Centre, a unique primary birthing service serving South Auckland communities.
This role sits within a collaborative partnership between Turuki Health Care and Tagata Moana Maternity Trust, with a shared commitment to delivering integrated, culturally grounded maternity care for māmā, pēpi and whānau.
As Operations Manager, you will provide senior operational leadership across Nga Hau ensuring the effective delivery of services, strengthening system integration and driving continuous improvement. You will work closely with clinical leaders, executive stakeholders and community partners to achieve strong, equitable outcomes for whaanau.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead operational delivery of Nga Hau, translating strategy into high-quality, whaanau-centred maternity services
- Strengthen partnerships and integration across Turuki Health Care, Tagata Moana Maternity Trust and the wider health sector
- Provide strong people leadership, building capability, performance and a collaborative culture
- Ensure quality, safety and compliance across all clinical and operational systems
- Oversee financial and operational performance, including budgeting, reporting and continuous improvement
- Champion equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, embedding culturally grounded practice
Ngaa puukenga me ngaa wheako – Skills and experience You are a senior operational leader with the ability to balance strategic thinking and delivery within a complex, community-focused health environment.
You will bring: - Extensive experience (7 - 10+ years) in health service operations or similar complex environments
- Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams and service delivery outcomes
- Strong understanding of healthcare quality, risk and compliance frameworks
- Financial and operational management expertise
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
You will also demonstrate: - Understanding of maternity services and midwifery models of care
- Commitment to equity and culturally safe practice
- Ability to work effectively within kaupapa Māori and Pasifika contexts
Qualifications: - Relevant tertiary qualification (Health Management, Public Health, Business or similar)
- Current APC (Nursing or Midwifery Council) is advantageous but not essential
- Full NZ Driver Licence and eligibility to work in Aotearoa
