As the leading medical recruitment agency in South Africa, our client has an exciting opportunity for a Basic Ambulance Assistant to be based in East London.
The client
Our client is an established emergency medical services provider offering pre-hospital care, patient transport and event medical support across multiple locations. The organisation also provides first aid training, wellness services and occupational health solutions, supporting both individuals and corporate clients within the community.
The opportunity
The Basic Ambulance Assistant will provide essential frontline emergency medical care and ensure the safe transport of patients within a structured EMS environment. This role requires a compassionate and reliable individual who can respond effectively to emergencies while maintaining high standards of patient care and operational readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Basic Life Support in line with clinical protocols
- Respond to emergency calls and assist in delivering pre-hospital care
- Ensure safe handling and transportation of patients
- Assist senior paramedics during emergency responses
- Maintain ambulance readiness, including equipment and stock checks
- Complete accurate documentation and reporting
- Communicate effectively with patients, families and healthcare professionals
- Adhere to EMS policies, procedures and clinical guidelines
Requirements: - Minimum qualification of Basic Life Support certificate or training
- Registered with HPCSA
- Valid Professional Driving Permit
- Ability to work shifts including day and night duty
- Fluency in English with Xhosa and or Afrikaans advantageous
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach
