THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced and driven Commercial Manager to join our Legal, Risk & Compliance team. In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic commercial and contractual leadership to support effective project delivery and drive business profitability.
Reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with your commercial team, you will lead the negotiation of high-value contracts to ensure alignment with EPEC's objectives and a consistent commercial approach. You will draw on your law degree to support accurate risk identification, contract interpretation, and high-quality commercial decision-making. Your ability to balance commercial outcomes with sound governance and compliance will be key to our continued success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the review, negotiation, and drafting of major contracts, applying your law degree to identify legal and commercial risks and proposing solutions.
- Provide commercial advice during tenders and pre-contract phases to mitigate risks and support sound decision-making.
- Develop and maintain commercial management frameworks, contractual standards, and templates.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
- Support and mentor Contract Managers and Administrators to enhance their commercial capabilities.
- Contribute to strategic decisions, business growth initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
ABOUT YOU - Tertiary qualification in Law with practising experience (current or past), ideally complemented by studies or experience in Business, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related discipline
- Minimum 7 years' experience in legal, commercial, or contracts roles
- At least 3 years leading strategic commercial negotiations at a senior level
- Demonstrated strengths in accurate risk identification and confident in the interpretation of complex agreements
- Demonstrated expertise in contract review, drafting, and negotiation for major projects and high-value contracts within construction, infrastructure, or heavy industry sectors
- Strong commercial acumen, exceptional understanding of key project risks, and meticulous attention to detail
- Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts
- Proficient in risk management tools, ERP systems, financial platforms, and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of the power and energy sector (or willingness to develop expertise in this area)
