Senior Accountant

We're partnering with a respected Canterbury Chartered Accounting practice seeking a Senior Accountant to join its business advisory team. This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys working closely with business owners, building trusted relationships, and helping clients make informed financial and operational decisions.

The Role

This position offers a balance of compliance, advisory, and client relationship responsibilities, making it ideal for an accountant who enjoys variety and wants to broaden their experience beyond year-end accounts and tax returns.

Working with a portfolio of small to medium-sized businesses, you'll provide practical guidance that helps clients better understand performance, plan for the future, and navigate day-to-day commercial challenges.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing and reviewing financial statements and income tax returns
• Supporting clients with accounting and taxation matters
• Assisting with advisory engagements which may include budgeting, forecasting, cashflow planning, and management reporting
• Providing support on cloud accounting platforms and financial systems
• Identifying opportunities to improve reporting processes and business performance
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
• Contributing to a high-performing team focused on delivering quality advice and service

About You

We're interested in speaking with accountants who combine strong technical capability with a genuine interest in working with people.
You will likely bring:

• Minimum 3+ years' experience within a Chartered Accounting environment and ideally CA qualified, or working towards
• Sound knowledge of financial reporting and taxation principles
• Experience with modern cloud-based accounting software - Xero preferred but not essential
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build credibility with clients and colleagues alike
• A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem solving
• A desire to continue developing professionally and commercially
