We are seeking an experienced employment lawyer to join a collegial and collaborative in-house legal team within a large national organisation. This role offers the chance to work at the heart of organisational decision-making, providing trusted legal advice on often complex employment matters. 

While the successful candidate will preferably be based in Wellington, candidates from Auckland and Christchurch will also be considered.

In this role, you will partner with internal stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, solutions-focused advice across a broad range of employment law matters. Your work will include both advisory and dispute work and you will be trusted to operate with a high degree of autonomy while supporting sound decision-making and risk management across the organisation.

Key aspects of the role include managing workplace disputes, disciplinary processes, and investigations; attending mediations and representing the organisation before the ERA; providing guidance on legal risk, compliance and appropriate employment practises/procedures; and engaging and managing external counsel (where appropriate).
  
Ko koe tēnei | About you
  
You will be a confident and seasoned employment lawyer who is comfortable operating independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. To be successful, you will bring:

• A Bachelor of Laws and a current practising certificate (or eligibility to get one)
• A minimum of 6 years’ post qualification experience in employment law, ideally within complex or large-scale organisations
• Significant mediation experience and experience representing clients before the ERA and/or Employment Court
• Proven ability to manage complex and sensitive matters with sound judgement
• A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach and well-developed communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills
• The ability to work both autonomously, and to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders when required
