Investigator

12-month fixed-term opportunity | Wellington

Mō te tūranga | About the role

In this role, you will conduct investigations from initial assessment through to reporting. This will include gathering and analysing evidence, interviewing and engaging with relevant parties, preparing clear evidence-based reports, and contributing to robust, fair decision-making.

You will manage an investigations caseload, contribute to hearing preparation, liaise with legal representatives and internal advisors, and ensure matters are progressed with fairness, rigour, and strong attention to detail within legislative and policy frameworks.

This role is best suited to someone with experience in conduct-based, regulatory, legal, disciplinary, professional standards, or Police investigations, where evidence gathering, report writing, sound judgement, and procedural fairness are central to the work.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Proven experience conducting investigations within a regulatory, legal, professional standards, disciplinary, or public sector environment
• Strong understanding of fair process, evidence gathering, natural justice, confidentiality, and sound decision-making
• Confidence interviewing, analysing information, managing sensitive matters, and preparing clear evidence-based reports
• Ability to manage an investigations caseload, prioritise competing matters, and progress sensitive cases within agreed timeframes
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and documentation to a high evidential standard
• Professionalism, discretion, resilience, and sound judgement when working with complex or sensitive information
• Awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, and culturally responsive practice would be an advantage
• Backgrounds in professional regulation, complaints resolution, legal services, employment relations, NZ Police, statutory investigations, disciplinary environments, or similar conduct-based settings would be highly valued

Salary range is $83,679–$98,446 per annum.

This role includes occasional travel as part of your caseload and hearing schedule. A clean New Zealand driver’s licence is required.
