Major cattle export facility requires an experienced Livestock Manager to oversee all operations, including livestock, safety, biosecurity and staff.
Our client
Our client manages the Roebuck Export Depot in Broome, Western Australia. This is a holding area and biosecurity facility for the transfer of cattle domestically and for live export. The Depot underpins the pastoral industry of Northern WA and provides a fundamental service to the industry. The facility can hold over 12,000 head at any one time and is utilised by exporters and livestock agents to aggregate cattle for live export markets. It also handles transit cattle for the domestic markets. The facility operates under strict environmental and animal welfare standards, with a strong commitment to animal welfare. We are now seeking a Depot/Livestock Facility Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations.
Role and responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director Agricultural Operations, this role will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the live export depot. You will oversee livestock management, biosecurity, staff leadership, and financial performance. The Depot employs up to 15 personnel at peak times but operates on a skeleton staff during the off-season (which extends from December to March). The position requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills to lead the team and to manage the competing interests of stakeholders (brokers, stock agents and exporters). There is a strong preference for someone with prior experience in the live export cattle market, but experience in feedlot management would also be highly regarded. Someone whose partner is available to work on the depot would also be highly regarded.
