Commercial Trust Accountant – Melbourne Inner East
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, based full-time from our client's Melbourne Inner East office (no remote or hybrid work available for this role). We're looking for an experienced Commercial Trust Accountant who is confident owning the trust function end-to-end and comfortable working with commercial trust accounting software.
The opportunity
As Commercial Trust Accountant, you will take end-to-end responsibility for the accurate, compliant operation of trust accounts across a commercial property portfolio. You will work closely with the Financial Controller and wider finance team, becoming the go-to person for trust accounting, landlord accounting and reconciliations.
Key responsibilities include
Processing and allocating daily trust receipts, and completing daily trust bank reconciliations
Investigating and resolving unidentified receipts and reconciliation variances
Processing trust refunds and adjustments, and monitoring trust balances
Processing supplier invoices, verifying approvals and coding, and preparing payment batches
Allocating expenses between landlords and tenants, and processing supplier and landlord payments
Preparing landlord statements, reconciling management fees and processing landlord distributions
Maintaining tenancy and property financial records, including rent reviews and lease changes
Preparing month-end trust close, end-of-month rollovers and reconciliation schedules
Supporting year-end reporting and annual trust audits, and assisting with audit requests
Preparing arrears reports, tenancy schedules, management fee reports and ad hoc financial reporting
Maintaining compliance records and ensuring trust transactions comply with legislation and company policy
Identifying opportunities to improve trust processes and contributing to system enhancements
This is a hands-on role with genuine ownership of the trust function, working within a well-established commercial property environment.
About you You're a precise, deadline-driven trust accountant who takes pride in clean reconciliations and well-run processes, and you're comfortable being the trusted internal expert for all things trust accounting.
You will ideally bring:
5+ years' experience in commercial trust accounting (required for the top of the salary range)
Proven experience using Cirrus8 trust accounting software (required for the top of the salary range)
Strong understanding of trust accounting compliance and legislative requirements
High attention to detail and confident reconciliation and problem-solving skills
Clear, professional communication skills, with confidence liaising with landlords, tenants and internal stakeholders
Strong time management skills and comfort with recurring daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
Willingness and ability to work full-time from the office, five days a week
