The Role
Are you passionate about science, innovation, and real-world impact? We’re looking for a Project Manager with a strong analytical background in food chemistry to join our inclusive and collaborative Technical Team in Chatteris.
This role is key to our technical operations. You’ll bring both your scientific expertise and project management skills to support our analytical chemistry teams. Working closely with section managers and team members, you’ll lead on method development, validation, and continuous improvement – helping ALS remain a leader in cutting-edge food chemistry testing.
We’re seeking someone with meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication, and a solid grasp of analytical techniques. A background in analytical food chemistry is essential, as is proven experience in analytical project management and delivery.

About the Position
- Shift:40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Location:Chatteris
- Contract:Full Time, Permanent
- Closing Date:10:00 am Friday 11th April 2025
The day to day - Ensuring analytical methods are consistently effective, efficient, and safe
- Working with leadership teams to identify areas for improvement and innovation
- Leading verification and validation of methods and laboratory equipment
- Supporting audits and method reviews with technical input
- Building strong relationships with external partners to support current and future projects
- Keeping up to date with testing advancements and proactively implementing innovations
- Representing ALS on technical working groups and committees
- Advising on capital equipment investments based on technical needs
The Essentials - A degree (or equivalent experience) in chemistry, or a closely related scientific field
- Extensive hands-on lab experience, specifically in food chemistry
- Strong analytical project management and technical chemistry skills – this is essential
- Experience in method development and validation within a laboratory setting
- Sound understanding of Quality Management Systems, ideally ISO:17025
- Flexible, collaborative approach with a drive for continuous improvement
- Ability to evaluate scientific data and draw clear conclusions
- Confidence in Microsoft Office tools and managing technical documentation
- Excellent organisational skills to manage both personal and team workloads
- A strong commitment to safety, compliance, and professional standards
