This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being on the floor, building relationships with operational teams and providing practical advice to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted business partner to manufacturing, production and warehouse teams, providing practical WHS advice and guidance.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with relevant WHS legislation, internal policies and industry standards.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety audits and risk assessments across manufacturing and warehouse operations.
- Support incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Identify operational hazards and work collaboratively with supervisors and employees to implement appropriate controls.
- Coordinate safety inductions, toolbox talks, training and ongoing WHS awareness initiatives.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, registers, compliance records and reporting.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of WHS management systems, procedures and safe work practices.
- Monitor contractor safety, equipment compliance and operational activities to ensure relevant safety requirements are met.
- Work closely with the HSEQ Lead to support broader compliance initiatives, internal audits and continuous improvement activities.
- Promote a positive safety culture by building strong relationships and encouraging accountability at all levels of the organisation.
About You We are looking for a proactive and approachable safety professional who can confidently manage day-to-day WHS responsibilities within an operational environment.
Ideally, you will bring: - Previous experience in a WHS, HSE or safety compliance role within manufacturing, warehousing, engineering or a similar industrial environment.
- A Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety, or a relevant qualification.
- Sound understanding of Australian WHS legislation, risk management principles and workplace compliance requirements.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, incident investigations and safety audits.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and take ownership of operational safety matters.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to engage with everyone from warehouse employees through to senior management.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to safety, balancing regulatory requirements with operational needs.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or integrated management systems would be advantageous.
Previous experience within Defence or a highly regulated manufacturing environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
What's on Offer This is an opportunity to join an established and growing Defence manufacturer, working closely with operational teams to make a genuine impact on workplace safety and compliance.
You will have the autonomy to manage day-to-day safety activities while benefiting from the guidance and support of an experienced HSEQ Lead.
