The opportunity
The Unit Manager High Care will be responsible for overseeing the clinical and operational management of the high care unit. This role requires a strong leader who can ensure high standards of patient care, manage resources effectively and drive quality improvement initiatives within a structured clinical environment.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure delivery of safe, cost-effective and high-quality patient care in line with clinical governance standards
- Manage unit resources, including staffing, acuity levels and skill mix
- Oversee departmental financial performance, including budgeting, billing and stock management
- Identify and implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor clinical outcomes
- Manage clinical risks, investigate incidents and ensure compliance with policies and legislation
- Ensure equipment maintenance, safety standards and asset control
- Lead and manage nursing staff, including performance management, mentoring and development
- Promote a positive working environment and support staff wellbeing
- Facilitate effective communication with patients, families and healthcare professionals
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships within the hospital environment
- Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards
- Support transformation initiatives and organisational goals
Requirements: - Relevant nursing qualification Diploma in General Nursing or BCur Degree or equivalent NQF 7
- Registered Nurse with valid SANC registration
- Post basic qualification in Critical Care
- Qualification in Health Services Management a MUST
- Minimum of 3 years' experience post speciality qualification
- Proven leadership and people management experience
- Strong financial and operational management skills
- Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement processes
