Senior Survey Party Chief – Roadway Construction (Denver, CO)
70% Office / 30% Field — Managing Team of 4 Party Chiefs
Overview:
Lead and oversee all surveying operations for roadway and civil construction projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to project requirements. Serve as the primary technical resource for field crews and office staff within the in-house survey department.
Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise, mentor, and coordinate a team of four Survey Party Chiefs, ensuring successful execution of daily surveying tasks across multiple roadway projects.
• Perform project setup, data management, surface creation, and quality control using Trimble Business Center (TBC).
• Oversee field operations including layout, topographic surveys, as-built documentation, and grade verification.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and estimating teams to support construction sequencing and resolve design conflicts.
• Develop and maintain horizontal and vertical control networks for roadway projects.
• Review field data, verify accuracy, and ensure compliance with project specifications and DOT standards.
• Implement and enforce best practices for safety, field procedures, data collection, and equipment maintenance.
• Provide technical guidance on Trimble GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and other survey technologies.
• Support project planning by preparing cut/fill maps, digital terrain models (DTMs), and machine control files.
• Maintain organized recordkeeping and deliverables, including daily reports, QA/QC documentation, and survey logs.

Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in roadway or heavy civil construction surveying.
• Strong proficiency with Trimble Business Center and Trimble survey equipment.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing multiple survey crews.
• Solid understanding of roadway design plans, alignments, utilities, and construction staking.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with field and office teams.
• Ability to work locally within the Denver metro area.
