The opportunity We seek a highly experienced VP of Engineering with a proven track record of successfully managing and scaling engineering teams.
The ideal candidate will take full ownership of the technical architecture and be able to lead a small team of engineers, driving both strategic and hands-on execution.
You will define and drive the technical vision, and your role will involve designing and building systems that seamlessly integrate real-time processing, machine learning capabilities, and advanced analytics into a unified, scalable, and highly reliable platform.
Your immediate responsibility is to manage a small team of engineers, as the company grows, this role will expand to include scaling the team and managing additional engineers.
Core Responsibilities: - Design distributed, event-driven architectures that efficiently manage stateful, long-lived sessions
- Develop patterns for fair resource allocation and load balancing across distributed services
- Create resilient systems with a focus on service discovery, routability, and automated recovery
- Define strategies for scaling both stateless and stateful services across the platform
- Establish and govern API standards with an emphasis on consistency and reliability
- Implement monitoring and coordination patterns to ensure the health of distributed systems
- Manage engineering team , collaborating cross-functionally with product to ensure alignment on technical direction and architectural decisions
Required Experience: - Extensive years of experience architecting distributed systems, particularly for large-scale data processing
- Deep expertise in event-driven architectures and distributed state management
- Strong background in microservices architecture and patterns
- Familiarity with distributed coordination systems (e.g., Redis) and message brokers (e.g., NATS, Kafka)
- Experience designing systems with service discovery, dynamic routing, and partition tolerance
- Proven track record of building fault-tolerant systems with automated recovery and graceful degradation
- Expertise in RESTful APIs, webhook architectures, and OAuth-based integrations
- Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud storage systems (e.g., Google Drive API)
- Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Awareness of architectural trade-offs and system design considerations when integrating LLMs, vector stores, and text embeddings into production systems
This role combines deep technical expertise in stateful distributed systems with the leadership skills needed to guide their platform's evolution as they scale to handle increasing document processing demands and integrate new services.
