About The Hurricanes: The Hurricanes Rugby Club was founded in 1996 as the Wellington Hurricanes for the inaugural Super 12 season. Based in Upper Hutt, the Hurricanes primary home ground is Hnry Stadium in Wellington, but covers the region including Wellington, Horowhenua-Kapiti, Manawatu, Whanganui, Wairarapa Bush, Hawkes Bay & Poverty Bay. The Opportunity The Hurricanes are seeking an outstanding General Manager - Marketing & Fan Engagement to lead the club's marketing, communications, content and events functions. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this senior leadership role will be responsible for strengthening the Hurricanes brand, growing ticketing and membership revenue, and creating memorable fan experiences that build lifelong connections with the club. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, dare to be different leader to shape the club's marketing strategy, enhance matchday experiences and drive meaningful engagement with fans and communities across the Hurricanes region.
Key Responsibilities - Develop and integrated marketing, communications and fan engagement strategies.
- Drive ticketing and membership revenue, fan acquisition, loyalty and retention.
- Lead digital marketing, content, social media and digital monetisation initiatives.
- Oversee matchday entertainment, events and fan activations to enhance the supporter experience.
- Use audience insights, CRM data and analytics to inform marketing decisions and improve performance.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering creativity, collaboration and accountability.
About You We are seeking an accomplished marketing leader, creative flair and a passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences. You will demonstrate:
- Proven senior marketing leadership experience, ideally within sport, entertainment, events or a consumer-focused organisation.
- A track record of delivering successful marketing campaigns, audience growth and commercial results.
- Strong digital marketing, content and media strategy, CRM and data analytics capabilities.
- Experience developing engaging events, activations and customer experiences.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and develop high-performing teams.
- A creative, innovative and collaborative approach, supported by strong strategic and commercial judgement.
