An established and highly respected commercial construction business is seeking an experienced Construction Design Manager to join its Wellington team. This role will suit someone who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle, managing design processes from pre-construction through to delivery, and ensuring projects are coordinated, practical, and commercially successful.

The Opportunity
As Construction Design Manager, you will play a key role between clients, consultants, and delivery teams, ensuring all design outcomes align with programme, budget, buildability, and quality expectations. You will be involved in a range of Residential and mixed-use projects and will have genuine input into project success.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process from concept through to construction completion
• Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors
• Review drawings and documentation for buildability, compliance, and cost efficiency
• Manage design programmes to meet project milestones
• Identify and mitigate design risks early in the project lifecycle
• Drive value engineering opportunities without compromising quality
• Support project teams through procurement and construction phases
• Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships throughout delivery
• Ensure all documentation is current, coordinated, and issued on time

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in a Design Manager, Project Manager, Architect, or senior coordination role within construction
• Strong understanding of construction methodology and project delivery
• Experience managing consultant teams and multiple stakeholders
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related discipline preferred
