Role: Robotics Engineer.
Location: San Francisco, CA.
Job Description:
We are seeking a hands-on Robotics Engineer to design, integrate, deploy, and support robotic automation systems operating in real production environments.
This role works across the deployment stack, combining robotics software, controls, perception, motion planning, hardware integration, and production engineering to build reliable robotic cells that solve real manufacturing problems.
The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between software and hardware, troubleshooting systems on the floor, and taking robotic applications from prototype through commissioning and sustained production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, integrate, and commission robotic cells for manufacturing and industrial applications.
- Develop and tune robot motion, trajectories, sequencing, and manipulation behaviors for reliable cycle execution.
- Integrate industrial robots, cobots, end-of-arm tooling, sensors, vision systems, PLCs, safety devices, conveyors, and other automation equipment.
- Implement perception and vision capabilities for localization, inspection, object detection, pose estimation, and robot guidance.
- Integrate classical robotics methods with learned manipulation or machine-learning-based policies where appropriate.
- Develop software and interfaces that connect robot systems with controls, production equipment, data systems, and operator workflows.
- Debug hardware, software, networking, controls, calibration, timing, and reliability issues in real production environments.
- Improve uptime, cycle time, repeatability, maintainability, and overall equipment effectiveness through structured testing and root-cause analysis.
- Create deployment, test, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
- Work directly with manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and customer teams to translate production requirements into deployable automation solutions.
- Support installation, factory/site acceptance testing, production launch, and post-deployment optimization.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience developing, integrating, or deploying robotic or industrial automation systems.
- Programming experience in Python and/or C++; ability to work effectively in Linux-based development environments.
- Understanding of robotics fundamentals, such as coordinate frames, kinematics, motion planning, calibration, sensing, and control.
- Experience interfacing software with physical hardware, sensors, actuators, industrial networks, or automation equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose complex electromechanical and software issues.
- Ability to work on-site in manufacturing environments and support deployment activities as required.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with ROS/ROS 2 and common robotics development tools.
- Experience with industrial robot platforms such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa/Motoman, Universal Robots, or similar systems.
- Computer vision experience using OpenCV, depth cameras, 2D/3D vision, point clouds, or related perception technologies.
- Experience with PLCs, industrial controls, fieldbus/industrial Ethernet protocols, safety systems, and machine integration.
- Experience with simulation, digital twins, robot offline programming, or physics-based simulation tools.
- Exposure to reinforcement learning, imitation learning, learned manipulation, or other physical-AI approaches.
- Experience deploying automation in aerospace, defense, automotive, electronics, medical device, precision manufacturing, or other high-mix production environments.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, containerized applications, telemetry, logging, and production software practices.
What Success Looks Like: - Robotic cells move from development to production with stable, repeatable performance.
- Deployment issues are diagnosed quickly and converted into durable engineering fixes.
- Systems meet production requirements for safety, quality, uptime, throughput, and maintainability.
- Engineering solutions are practical, documented, and supportable by operations teams after launch.
Working Environment: This is a hands-on engineering role that may involve work around industrial machinery, robotic equipment, manufacturing floors, and customer sites. Travel and schedule flexibility may be required during installation, commissioning, and production launch periods.
Candidate Profile We are looking for an engineer who enjoys making robots work outside the lab. Strong candidates combine technical depth with practical judgment, take ownership of problems through resolution, communicate clearly across disciplines, and are comfortable working in environments where system reliability directly affects production.
