Role: Senior Systems Administrator
Location: Washington, DC (100% Onsite).

Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Systems Administrator to support a mission-critical environment for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Washington, DC.
 
This is a 100% onsite position focused heavily on Linux systems administration, enterprise security, and the operation of complex application and database environments.
 
The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and strong knowledge of secure Linux configurations, including FIPS mode, SELinux, firewalld, and fapolicyd. Experience supporting legacy Oracle-based applications is a key differentiator, while expertise in cloud technologies and digital security is highly desirable.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Administer, configure, secure, troubleshoot, and maintain enterprise RHEL 7, 8, and 9 environments.
• Implement and maintain hardened Linux configurations in accordance with security and mission requirements.
• Configure and troubleshoot FIPS mode, SELinux, firewalld, and fapolicyd.
• Perform system installation, patching, upgrades, performance tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, and lifecycle management.
• Support enterprise Java application environments, including JPA, JAX-RS, Hibernate, Spring, Apache HTTPD, and Apache Tomcat.
• Administer and troubleshoot systems supporting PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Solr, and Oracle databases.
• Provide systems administration support for both modern and legacy Oracle-based applications.
• Diagnose complex infrastructure, operating-system, application, database, networking, and integration issues.
• Collaborate with application developers, database administrators, cybersecurity personnel, and infrastructure teams to resolve production issues.
• Implement security controls and assist with vulnerability remediation, configuration hardening, and compliance activities.
• Support system security engineering activities involving access controls, logging, auditing, encryption, and secure communications.
• Develop and maintain automation and administrative scripts where appropriate.
• Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system reliability and security.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, system configurations, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Security+ certification is mandatory.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph.
• Extensive hands-on systems administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, 8, and 9.
• Strong experience with Linux security and hardening, particularly:
  • FIPS mode
  • SELinux
  • firewalld
  • fapolicyd
• Experience supporting enterprise Java application environments.
• Experience with Apache HTTPD and Tomcat.
• Working knowledge of JPA, JAX-RS, Hibernate, and Spring.
• Experience supporting PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Solr, and Oracle environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across operating systems, applications, databases, and infrastructure.

Preferred / Differentiating Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience supporting legacy Oracle applications — this is a major differentiator.
• Strong experience with Oracle administration, troubleshooting, integration, or application support.
• Experience in cloud environments and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of digital security and cybersecurity practices.
• Experience with security compliance, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and security auditing.
• Experience automating Linux administration and operational tasks.
• Experience working in high-security government or intelligence environments.

• Operating Systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/8/9.
• Linux Security: FIPS, SELinux, firewalld, fapolicyd.
• Application Stack: Java, JPA, JAX-RS, Hibernate, Spring, Apache HTTPD, Tomcat.

• Environment: DIA / mission-critical federal environment.

Clearance:

• TS/SCI with CI Polygraph

Security Certification:

• Security+ — Mandatory

Compensation:
$120,000-$160,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
 
Ideal Candidate:
The strongest candidate will be a seasoned Linux administrator who can operate comfortably at the intersection of secure RHEL administration, Java application infrastructure, databases, and cybersecurity. Deep experience with legacy Oracle applications is particularly valuable and may distinguish candidates in the selection process.
