Principal ServiceNow Technical Architect

POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a Principal ServiceNow Technical Architect to serve as the enterprise technical authority and accountable architect of record for the ServiceNow platform supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
This individual is responsible for establishing and enforcing architectural standards, governing data and integration strategy, modernizing legacy implementations, reducing customization debt, and ensuring upgrade-safe platform engineering aligned to PWS requirements, CLIN deliverables, and federal compliance mandates.
This is a stewardship role. The Principal Architect defines how the platform will operate, not simply how it will be configured.
ServiceNow security architecture and role modeling.
Proven track record of stabilizing and modernizing highly customized ServiceNow environments.
Experience operating within federal compliance frameworks (ATO, RMF, FedRAMP).
Experience participating in or leading Architecture Review Boards (ARB).

Experience supporting VA or other large federal health IT modernization initiatives.
Familiarity with App Engine Studio.
Experience reducing platform technical debt in enterprise ServiceNow environments.
Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities, Process Mining, or advanced data governance frameworks.
Experience in Agile delivery environments.
Experience in Government Contracting, including PWS compliance and deliverables management.
Local to DMV and able to attend in-person meetings twice monthly.
WHAT WE VALUE
Architectural judgment grounded in resilience, scalability, and upgrade integrity.
The discipline to simplify complex systems rather than amplify them.
Governance that enables innovation without compromising control.
Clear documentation and defensible decision-making in high-visibility environments.
Leadership that builds architectural maturity across teams.
Accountability for long-term platform health, not short-term velocity alone.
WORKING CONDITIONS Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday, 9-5 ET. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs.
