Do work that makes a difference
SEC is building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria’s transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. We are working together for renewable, affordable, reliable energy for all Victorians.
Your role
Join SEC and play an important role in helping shape Victoria’s renewable energy future through compelling storytelling and strategic communications. As the Senior Adviser, Media and Communications, you will deliver media relations activities and develop engaging content that showcases SEC’s work, initiatives and impact across Victoria. Working closely with the Manager, Media and Communications, you will help drive a pipeline of media opportunities, assist in identifying and managing potential media issues and contribute to strategic communication plans that strengthen SEC’s profile and reputation. You will also be responsible for managing SEC’s media monitoring and reporting activities.
This is a dynamic and varied role where you will create high-quality content across media events, SEC-owned channels (including its website), stakeholder communications and community engagement initiatives. You will also collaborate closely with the wider Brand and Corporate Affairs team, providing the opportunity to broaden your experience across brand, marketing and corporate communications, while continuing to grow your career within a purpose-driven environment.
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.
What you will do:
- Develop a pipeline of media opportunities: Support the Corporate Affairs team in promoting SEC’s role in Victoria’s energy transition, including renewable energy investments, electrification initiatives, renewable retail offerings and workforce development.
- Announcements, project milestones, and public/stakeholder engagement: Assist preparing communications and stakeholder materials supporting major announcements, milestones and progress across SEC projects and initiatives.
- Content Creation: Develop high-quality written content including speeches, briefs, media releases, newsletters, case studies, FAQs and social media content.
- Media and issues management: Support the identification and management of emerging issues through preparation of briefings, proactive and reactive communications materials and strategic advice.
- Media monitoring: Manage media monitoring activities, ensuring relevant coverage is captured and insightful reporting is provided.
Who you are:
We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in a high-performing environment and enjoys contributing ideas, supporting colleagues and delivering high-quality outcomes. You will be an excellent communicator with strong writing skills and the ability to translate complex information into engaging content. You bring professionalism, responsiveness and an eye to detail to your work, and take a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement. You also contribute to a supportive and culturally safe team environment.
- Experience in journalism, public relations, media or corporate affairs, with strong issues management and stakeholder engagement capability.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into engaging and accessible content.
- Proven ability to work within fast-paced, high-performing environments while managing competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- A collaborative and proactive mindset, with a strong focus on teamwork, professionalism and delivering defined outcomes.
- Highly desirable: exposure to the energy sector and energy transition issues, along with an understanding of Victoria’s and Australia’s political landscape and experience working within political environments.

About us
We have an exciting and ambitious road ahead with a focus on:
- Investing in renewable energy and storage projects that accelerate the transition and deliver commercial returns.
- Supporting households to go electric to reduce their emissions and energy bills.
- Retailing electricity to Victorian Government operations and Victorian businesses to help them decarbonise.
- Underpinning all of this is SEC’s work to support the renewable energy workforce our energy transition requires.
The organisation is partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects – the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.
The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
The energy transformation will create thousands of jobs. The SEC will play a role in attracting and training our future renewable energy workforce.
