Your role The SEC Victoria is committed to helping all Victorians access simple, effective, and affordable energy solutions. Our Consumer Energy Solutions (CES) team is leading this effort by driving home electrification in partnership with industry, government, and communities to support the state’s clean energy transition.
As a
Community Engagement Specialist, you will lead engagement for community electrification projects, working with local residents, councils, energy organisations, and SEC teams to support the transition to energy-efficient electric appliances. You'll develop and execute engagement strategies, coordinate events, and foster collaboration to drive community participation.
This role offers flexibility and can be based at either our regional office in Morwell or our Melbourne CBD office. We welcome applications from regionally based candidates and offer flexible work arrangements to support your needs.
What you will do: Core accountabilities include:
- Community Engagement & Relationship Management – Develop and implement strategies to engage with local communities, energy utilities, and non-profit organizations, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Community Outreach & Education – Design and execute initiatives to raise awareness, educate residents, and drive the adoption of electrification solutions, collaborating with local leaders to tailor engagement efforts.
- Workshops & Public Engagement – Plan and facilitate community workshops, events, and outreach activities, providing clear and accessible information on electrification benefits.
- Monitoring & Reporting – Track the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement strategies, prepare reports on activities, outcomes, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Project Communication & Materials Development – Support the creation of project materials, presentations, and engagement content that clearly communicate the project’s vision, goals, and progress.
- Community Electrification Projects – Lead engagement efforts for initiatives such as a Ballan Community Electrification pilot, an 18-month program helping homeowners transition from mains gas to electric solutions like heat pumps and induction cooktops. Work with local manufacturers, utilities, and government to test consumer engagement strategies and support SEC’s digital one-stop-shop platform.
Who you are: Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are: - Experience in stakeholder engagement, community outreach, or public relations, preferably in the energy or environmental sectors.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community members, governmental agencies, and private sector partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in organizing public events, workshops, and community meetings.
Highly Desirable: - Knowledge of community energy projects, renewable energy initiatives, or sustainability programs.
- Experience in conflict resolution and managing stakeholder concerns.
- Experience working with diverse communities, including Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) groups, to ensure inclusive and equitable engagement.
Work Requirements & Expectations: - Occasional travel to engage with communities and stakeholders.
- Flexible working hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed to accommodate stakeholder availability.

The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
