In this hands‑on, practical role, you’ll join a small, supportive nursery team and work under the guidance of the Nursery Manager. Your days will be spent carrying out routine nursery tasks and contributing to the smooth day‑to‑day running of the nursery while developing practical, transferable skills in a truly unique alpine environment.
This role is well suited to someone who has an eye for detail and enjoys seeing the results of their efforts. No two days are the same, but the work is structured and meaningful, caring for alpine and sub‑alpine plants that support environmental restoration across our resorts.

Key accountabilities include:
- Deliver daily nursery operations, including plant propagation, maintenance, and hygiene, in accordance with ARV protocols and Manager direction.
- Provide customer service to clients and stakeholders, fulfilling plant orders and offering general advice escalating specialist queries to the Nursery Manager.
- Perform administration tasks such as data entry, inventory management, accounts payable, and EFTPOS transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor plant health, identify signs of disease or stress, and escalate issues to the NurseryManager as required.
- Maintain nursery hygiene and ensure compliance with ARV protocols for plant provenance, pest/disease management, and safe chemical handling.
- Support the maintenance and operation of irrigation systems and nursery equipment, reporting faults promptly to the Nursery Manager
Key Selection Criteria - Qualifications in (or working towards) horticulture, natural resource management, or a related field, or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in plant propagation and nursery operations.
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Applies sound judgement to resolve routine issues, escalating complex problems to the Manager as needed.
- Environmental Stewardship: Demonstrates understanding of sustainable practices and compliance with ARV’s environmental protocols.
- Customer Focus: Delivers high-quality service to clients and stakeholders, responding to needs and seeking opportunities for improvement.
- Collaboration: Works effectively with team members and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
The successful candidate will be required to: - Have full Australian working rights.
- Currently hold or be willing to obtain a Victorian Working with Children Check – Employee type
- Have a current, unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence.
- Satisfactorily pass a police check and random drug & alcohol tests.
Location: Ovens, located between the townships of Porepunkah and Myrtleford in North East Victoria.
Salary Range: $60,295-$61,508 per annum + superannuation (pro rata 0.6 FTE)
Contract Term: Permanent Part-time (0.6 FTE).
