• Homes Tasmania will provide opportunities for all Tasmanians to live in safe, secure, appropriate, and affordable housing.

Homes Tasmania is an independent statutory authority established under the Homes Tasmania Act 2022 with a purpose to provide housing and housing assistance to eligible Tasmanians, and to strategically manage and develop housing across Tasmania.

Homes Tasmania’s remit spans a range of short, medium and long-term strategies. The organisation facilitates access to safe, suitable and affordable housing for people on very low to moderate incomes, and with specialist housing needs. It also co-ordinates the provision of affordable land release and the My Home shared equity ownership scheme.  Evidenced based, the organisation works with government and a wide range of stakeholders in the housing and homelessness system.

Directors are independent, skills-based and appointed on the recommendation of the Minister for one to three years. The Board operates in a legislative and public policy environment with frameworks for strategy, performance accountability, risk, governance, operations and service delivery for the benefit of all Tasmanians.

The successful applicants will demonstrate either extensive residential property development and construction expertise or finance, investment and accounting experience. They will have superior commercial acumen, skills, and experience with a genuine appreciation for social and economic outcomes. Directors are expected to have strong values alignment and empathy for the work of Homes Tasmania with a sound understanding of contemporary best practice approaches to affordable housing and homelessness. Previous governance and risk management experience in complex organisations is essential.
