Tasmanian Independent Retailers is the representative body for Tasmanian independently owned grocery stores and supermarkets.
For more than 60 years, Tasmanian Independent Retailers (TIR) has acted as the representative body for Tasmanian independently owned grocery stores and supermarkets, including retailers trading under the IGA banners. TIR’s primary role is to support members and IGA retailers through advocacy, merchandising, marketing and promotions. TIR is also a co‑owner of Statewide Independent Wholesalers and owns and operates Island Fresh Produce and IGA Brighton, providing critical supply chain, distribution and retail capability across the state.
A dynamic Chief Executive Officer is sought to lead the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of TIR through its next phase of organisational maturity. Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will work closely with members, suppliers, partners and industry stakeholders to protect and strengthen the independent retail network. Based at Western Junction (near the Launceston airport), the role represents the interests of the sector at both state and national levels and, in partnership with the Board, oversees strategy execution, governance and risk management, while fostering an environment that supports strong performance and reflects TIR’s values and purpose.
The ideal candidate will bring senior executive leadership experience within complex commercial or member‑based environments, supported by strong strategic and commercial acumen and highly developed communication and relationship‑building skills. A collaborative and contemporary leadership approach is essential, including the ability to drive a positive organisational culture and inspire a diverse workforce. Outstanding stakeholder management skills and sound financial stewardship is also required, and an understanding of the independent and/or retail grocery industry would be highly regarded.
This role offers a meaningful opportunity to lead a respected, member‑focused organisation that is integral to Tasmania’s retail landscape and regional communities.
