SWS is an established leader in Tasmania's waste sector, operating the State's largest, most modern waste management facility network.
Southern Waste Solutions (SWS) is the business and trading arm of the Copping Refuse Disposal Site Joint Authority. It aims to provide best-practice, environmentally-sound waste management and disposal services to meet increasing community standards and expectations.
SWS is focussed on growth and has an ambitious long-term strategy to optimise its key strengths for the benefit of the broader Tasmanian community through its Local Government owners. It has evolved from a landfill operator to a mature business with a solid foundation from which to invest in emerging opportunities in the waste sector, particularly guided by the Tasmanian Government’s Waste Strategy and Action Plan.
SWS operates the Lutana Waste Transfer Station and the Copping Refuse Disposal Site in southern Tasmania, where major infrastructure projects are underway. The Copping facility includes Tasmania’s only C cell disposal site, alongside its B cell facilities. SWS also supports other waste transfer stations in Tasmania on behalf of other Councils and the transport of waste from several locations to the Copping facility.
An opportunity has arisen for a part-time Company Secretary to support the Boards of SWS and C Cell Pty Ltd. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the role supports effective board operations and the delivery of high-quality corporate governance and secretariat services across the organisation and its related entities. Responsibilities include advising the Boards, coordinating meetings, maintaining statutory and organisational records, and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory obligations.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in a similar role and knowledge of relevant legislative provisions. A solid understanding of contemporary corporate governance and tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline is also required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills together with a compliance focus and attention to detail will ensure you succeed in the role.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic operating environment and enjoy a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. The position will be based at the Lutana office, with flexibility to operate remotely.
