The Tasmanian Council of Social Service (TasCOSS) is the peak body for the community services industry in Tasmania, representing the interests of its members and their service users to government, regulators, the media and the public.
Through advocacy, policy development, and collaboration with our members, TasCOSS amplifies the voices of Tasmanians experiencing poverty and inequality to drive systemic change that delivers lasting social impact. It also undertakes research, and develops social policy to strengthen the Tasmanian community services industry and better support Tasmanians experiencing disadvantage. For further information about the organisation, please visit tascoss.org.au.
An opportunity has arisen for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead TasCOSS. Based in Hobart, with a statewide remit, the CEO will be responsible for strategic leadership, industry development and influence, organisational sustainability, and advocacy.
Providing visionary, values‑driven leadership, the CEO will ensure that TasCOSS remains a trusted, independent and courageous advocate. The role requires sound political awareness, strong relationships across government and the community services industry, as well as the ability to convene diverse stakeholders to collectively design systems for the alleviation of disadvantage, poverty and inequality in Tasmania. The CEO will also ensure that the organisation is strategically positioned, financially sustainable, operationally strong, and culturally aligned with its core values of Integrity, Compassion and Influence.
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments and high level financial and organisational management capability. They will have a proven record of informing evidence-based policy development for systemic change within politically sensitive contexts, supported by strong advocacy, media, and public communication skills. An understanding of community services systems and the drivers of disadvantage, with the capacity to quickly build deep insight into the Tasmanian context, is also required.
This role offers a rare opportunity to lead Tasmania’s peak body for the community services industry, be a bold and values-driven advocate for Tasmanians experiencing poverty and inequality, strengthen the industry and enable enduring social impact.
