Hobart City Mission brings together people who give and people in need, through the provision of client focused, holistic and innovative services.
Founded in 1852, Hobart City Mission is Australia’s first City Mission and one of the oldest in the world, with a proud legacy of compassionate service to Southern Tasmania’s most vulnerable communities. As a values-driven organisation, Hobart City Mission delivers a wide range of holistic and client-focused programs that address homelessness, family support, disability services, and crisis assistance. With a strong community presence through eight Op Shops and a diverse funding base, Hobart City Mission continues to innovate and grow in response to evolving social needs. The organisation’s purpose is to bring together people who give and people in need, fostering resilient and connected communities.
Hobart City Mission now seeks a visionary and values-led Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the next chapter of its impactful journey. The CEO will set strategic direction, ensure financial sustainability and statutory compliance, and elevate the organisation’s public profile. As a visible and respected advocate, the CEO will represent Hobart City Mission across its communities and sectors, championing its mission and the people it serves.
Working closely with the Board and Senior Leadership Team to oversee governance, operations, and people, the CEO will drive a culture of excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement. The role will also oversee program and service delivery along with fundraising, marketing, and stakeholder engagement, building influential relationships across media, government, and community.
The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience within a multi-faceted community services or not-for-profit organisation. A skilled communicator and relationship builder, the new CEO will foster trust-based partnerships with government, corporate, and community stakeholders to secure sustainable funding and support. They will bring a clear and inspiring vision for Hobart City Mission's future, demonstrating strong leadership that empowers staff and volunteers while strengthening the organisation’s culture. A strategic and systematic approach to governance will be essential, ensuring high standards in compliance, risk management, and operational excellence. Connections to or experience in our southern Tasmania community would be valued.
