To accompany ASC clients to health appointments with other health care providers

Position: Health Navigation Volunteer Program Area: Health Purpose / Objective: To accompany ASC clients to health appointments with other health care providers Reports to: Health Manager Commitment Period: Minimum 3 months Days and hours required per week: One day/week of your choice from Monday to Friday. Appointments are not regular. The volunteer will be called in advance to get assigned a day and time.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide culturally appropriate support to clients who are open in the ASC Health program
Provide assistance to clients to navigate the healthcare system using phone interpreter if required
Working with the ASC Health team to understand the client’s background and arrange appointments on behalf of clients
Ensure you can provide their health provider with relevant details about the clients
Assist clients to attend their health appointments in a timely and safe manner walking or using public transport
Likely Locations: The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital, UNSW Optometry Clinic, Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick & Children's Hospital at Westmead
Empower clients to gain independence and be able to navigate the healthcare system, use phone navigation and public transport system on their own
Maintain communication with ASC Health staff regarding completed appointments, issues or questions.
Fill in a feedback form after the appointment has been completed
Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and cultures
Intermediate computer skills (confidence in using the internet and emails)
Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
Flexibility and willingness to take on extra tasks as appropriate
Ability to adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries and confidentiality
Speaking a second language is highly appreciated
All ASC volunteers are required to:
Adhere to ASC’s vision, purpose and values
Attend ASC Volunteer orientation, induction and training
Act at all times in accordance with ASC’s Code of Conduct, Confidentiality and Child Protection Policies
Comply with Work, Health and Safety systems
Comply with Incident Management Procedures and emergency protocols
Demonstrate a respectful and welcoming behaviour with all people at ASC in culturally appropriate ways
Apply for a NSW Police Check or share existing one if it has been obtained recently
Undertake a NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement and ensure it is up-to-date
Support a child-safe organisation by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements
Volunteers will be reimbursed for all reasonable travel and preapproved expenses.
Good hygiene measures are to be applied at all times to protect you against COVID-19. Masks and hand sanitizer can be provided if required.
