Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Northwest England, are looking for an experienced Governance Support Manager to join their team and play a crucial role within their  operations.  

Position: Governance Support Manager (Democratic Services)
Rate: £31.25 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35) 
Contract Duration: Temporary  
Working Arrangement: Hybrid 

Job Purpose: 

• To review, update and provide specialist advice to elected members and officers, including senior management, on the interpretation and application of the council's Constitution, Scheme of Delegation and relevant legislation.

Job Duties: 

• Develop, maintain, improve, deliver and communicate the council's arrangements on the Constitution, Scheme of Delegation and other aspects of governance and decision making to ensure the best outcomes for the Council, elected members and the public.
• Provide technical assurance and prepare standards, policies and procedures related to the Constitution, Scheme of Delegation and other aspects of governance and decision-making, ensuring compliance with best practice, relevant legislation and council policy frameworks.
• Produce and analyse reports, data and other relating to governance to contribute to the development of governance arrangements and innovative working practices across the council.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• Excellent and up-to-date knowledge of the application, principles, theory and practice of governance and democratic services work areas, particularly Overview and Scrutiny.
• Significant experience in local authority democratic services and governance within a large and/or complex operation/function/service.
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
