Job Role: Insurance Officer
Temporary or Permanent: Temp
Possible End Date: 28/06/2026 (possible extension)
Number of Positions: 1 position
Location: Bradford 
Rate of Pay: £24.81p/h umbrella  

Key Responsibilities:

• To inform the Senior Insurance officer/ Insurance Manager / Director of Finance on all substantive risks relating to insurance matters and the appropriateness of covers and remaining risks reporting to members and CMT on a regular basis.
• Collaborate with service areas and contribute to the development of loss control strategies to improve the Council’s insurance risk profile and improvement of the risk management arrangements.
• Lead the Council’s insurance claims handling arrangements on less risky cover areas to ensure they are handled in a professional and timely manner including liaison with claims handlers, legal representatives, loss adjusters and departmental contacts in the gathering of evidential support for complex cases.
• Provide advice on application and interpretation of financial regulations and standing orders and the Council’s financial procedures and practices as they relate to insurance and risk management,
• Look for opportunities to implement continuous improvement so that BMDC Finance can be best in class through liaison with sector professionals and trade organisations.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 2 years experience within a Insurance Officer or equivalent 
• Some technical competence in insurance policy clauses and wordings
  Woking knowledge of risk management principles and techniques
• Management and administration of insurance claims
• Qualifications required are Cert/ACII or IRM or qualified by experience - please note that we will accept individuals with a legal qualification (whether that be a law degree or ILEX or working towards) The individual must be able to demonstrate they know how the claims process works
