Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Hampshire, are looking for an experienced Principal Transport Planner to join their team and play a crucial role in their Electric Vehicle Transformation operations.  

Position: Principal Transport Planner
Rate: £26.58 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temporary (3 Months) with Possible Extension 

Purpose:

• The Council forecast to have over 38,000 electric vehicles by 2034, the council needs to plan for the city's electric vehicle future.
• Council have been allocated £3.682m from Government's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund (LEVI) to deliver new charging infrastructure to meet the forecast demand. This is in addition to a successful bid for £887,430 in funding from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) for up to 320 more lamp column chargers across the city as part of the third phase of the On-street Residential ChargePoint Scheme (ORCS).

Key Responsibilities:

• The Programme Manager, reporting into the Transport Planning Manager, will be responsible for the successful delivery of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (EVI) work programme working directly to the Programme Director (Transport Planning Manager).
• As programme manager and working closely with members of the EVI team, you will establish work streams, resource needs and financial requirements. You will work with colleagues across the council and bring in external expertise (consultants) as required to support on legal, procurement, resourcing and technical matters.
• You will help a develop strategy for success and map out activities, initiate work streams, monitor and report progress.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 1 year experience within a Principal Transport Planner role or equivalent.
• Relevant degree level education OR demonstrable equivalent professional experience is essential. 
• Has the proven ability to represent the service with direction at highly challenging internal/ external meetings, with integrity and confidence.
• Experience of dealing with financial and budget management.
• Communicates messages (which may be complicated or sensitive) clearly, concisely and at a level appropriate to the audience, who may not be specialists in air quality or transport planning.
