Position: Building Surveyor
Rate: £40.00 p/hour
Location: Darlington 
Contract Duration: 12 months with possible extension.

Purpose:

• To support the Building Surveying Manager in delivering a full range of surveying, specification, and estimating services. Responsible for procuring and managing contracts.

• Prepare bills of quantities, design specifications, valuations, and estimates for various clients.
• Manage contract documentation, cost/value reconciliations, and subcontractor evaluations.
• Lead retrofit grant schemes, ensuring compliance with PAS, Trustmark, and retrofit standards.
• Oversee procurement processes, including tender preparation and contractor selection.
• Manage project delivery, including contractor oversight, health & safety compliance, and budget control.
• Conduct on-site inspections, progress monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.
• Ensure effective communication with residents, colleagues, and contractors.
• Provide technical advice, project reports, and financial evaluations.
• Supervise and support Assistant Surveyors, sharing best practices.
• Adhere to all Council policies, health & safety regulations, and equality standards.

• HNC in Building Studies (or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction (maintenance, surveying, or contracting).
• Knowledge of retrofit requirements and procurement processes.
• Strong understanding of housing repair, maintenance, and new builds.
• Experience managing budgets, contracts, and project delivery.
