Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Northeast of England, are looking for an experienced Building Surveyor to join their team and play a crucial role in their quantity surveying/retrofit operations.  

Position: Building Surveyor
Rate: £21.52 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temporary (March 2026) with Possible Extension 

Purpose:

• To provide assistance to the Building Surveying Manager in delivering a comprehensive surveying, specification and estimating function. To procure and manage contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

• The post holder shall perform the following functions with regard to quantity surveying matters: preparation of bills quantities, design specifications, valuations on contracts and measurement of works on site. In addition, preparation of claims contracts, schedules of rates, small estimates etc. for various clients.
• Carry out sub-contractor evaluations post contract, originating sub contract enquiries, raising of orders and controlling sub-contract accounts.
• Lead on all retrofit grant schemes and ensure all requirements are achieved to deliver a compliant and successful scheme, this will include all PAS requirements, Trustmark requirements, Retrofit Designer, Assessor and Co-ordinators role and responsibilities.

Estimating – preparation of tenders, negotiations of contract sums and general estimating in the following areas:

• New build contracts including new housing
• Maintenance works within the scope of the Building Maintenance Term Contract
• Re-chargeable works
• Small works as required by other departments
• Partnering contracts
• Lead on the procurement of contracts

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 5 years experience within a Building Surveyor role or equivalent.
• HNC in Building Studies or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the construction industry (construction/maintenance environment).
• A sound knowledge of Retrofit requirements for all grant schemes
• Managing budgets and sound knowledge of contract documentation
  and preparation.
