Position: Economic Development Manager
Rate: £26.1 per hour

To lead and deliver high-street initiatives and business engagement programs in South Fulham, contributing to the borough’s Industrial Strategy, Economic Growth for Everyone. The role focuses on empowering local businesses, driving footfall, and fostering collaboration between stakeholders to create a vibrant, resilient, and inclusive local economy.


Key Responsibilities

• • Develop and implement place-based high-street projects to boost footfall and trade in South Fulham.
  • Commission and manage external suppliers for business support programs.
  • Monitor and report on budgets, deliverables, and project outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, landlords, and property agents to support economic resilience.
  • Facilitate collaboration between business organizations and council departments.
  • Support the growth of local business associations through coordination, meeting organization, and minute-taking.
  • Deliver business support programs, including signposting and referrals to relevant resources.
  • Conduct outreach to engage businesses with council programs and initiatives.
  • Support business associations in accessing external funding opportunities, including bid writing.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify and promote vacant commercial premises and meanwhile space opportunities.
  • Maintain and update a CRM/database to track business engagement and outcomes.
  • Provide briefings and updates to internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Draft high-quality communications, including newsletters, web content, reports, and policy advice
  • Respond to inquiries from senior officers, councillors, partners, and the public in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Assist in planning and delivering events such as the annual Wandsworth Bridge Road Fayre and seasonal promotions.
  • Conduct research on economic development trends, including high-street support initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the High Streets Task Force and other boroughs to identify best practices and funding opportunities.

• Essential: Degree in construction, development, or regeneration, or significant relevant experience (minimum 3 years).
• Desirable: Membership in a professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB).

• Proven experience managing complex, mixed-use development projects.
• Strong knowledge of project management for construction and development schemes.
• Expertise in handover processes and embedding efficient systems.
• Skilled in negotiation across project stages.
• Familiarity with public sector procurement processes.
