Position:  Environmental Health Officer
Rate: £25.68 per hour
Contract Duration: March 2025 (with possible extension)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections, surveys, investigations, and research to ensure compliance with statutory and policy requirements.
• Prepare reports, legal notices, correspondence, and undertake enforcement actions as necessary.
• Interpret and implement current legislation, policies, and best practices related to Port Health services.
• Represent the Port Health Service at council committees, public inquiries, and other relevant meetings.
• Provide expert advice to the public, council members, and other stakeholders on environmental health matters.
• Participate in the development of procedures, standards, and operational improvements.
• Undertake promotional and educational activities to support Port Health objectives.
• Maintain accurate records and reports to support the management of Port Health services.
• Contribute to the safeguarding and welfare of adults with care and support needs.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:


Essential:

• Professionally qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHO) with an EHORB certificate.
• Experience in applying Environmental Health legislation and undertaking enforcement actions.
• Strong customer care skills and experience handling complex or sensitive issues.
• Proficient in using IT systems, including digital platforms and MS Office.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of port-specific health and safety considerations.

Core Competencies

• Excellent organizational and teamwork skills, with the ability to prioritize workloads effectively.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to equality and health and safety policies.

Working Arrangements

• This role requires a high degree of mobility to travel across the port and board vessels.
• Shift work is required, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, with an applicable shift allowance.
• Contractual car usage may be necessary to fulfill role requirements.
