Position:  Environmental Health Officer
Rate: £25.68 per hour
Contract Duration: March 2025 (with possible extension)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm
   
   
Key Responsibilities:

• Undertaking surveys, investigations and research, carrying out inspections, keeping records, preparing reports (including Committee reports), legal notices, schedules and correspondence, and taking appropriate action including such legal action as may be necessary in accordance with City Council policy.
• Inspecting plans, investigating and considering any development proposals in relation to Divisional functions and responsibilities, giving advice, making recommendations and taking any appropriate action.
• Interpreting, administering and keeping aware of current legislation and policy (including Council policy), and keeping abreast of new developments related to the duties and responsibilities of the post, undergoing any relevant training as required.
• Attending and representing Port Health Service as required at meetings of the City Council’s committees and sub committees, public local inquiries and any other meetings or events.
• Liaising with and assisting as required, any senior officer who has been allocated special functional responsibility for the Port Health Service.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 2 years’ experience within a Environmental Health role or equivalent.
• Previous work experience, in particular gained within a Health and Safety environment.
• Excellent customer service skills with proven ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), in particular when resolving complaints and other matters.
