Position: Lawyer (Adult, Children and Education)
Rate: £55,293 - 58,737
Contract Duration: PERMANENT
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm
   
   
Key Responsibilities:

• To provide legal advice to client teams on adult social care matters including the Care Act 2014, immigration, ordinary residence, no recourse to public funds, deprivation of liberty, mental health, mental capacity, persons with physical difficulties, persons with learning difficulties, human rights matters and adult safeguarding.
• To deal with correspondence relating to on-going proceedings, or other correspondence received within the team and to liaise with external professionals as required.
• To carry out Legal research and give advice as required.
• To prepare cases for the Court of Protection and as required and to advise generally upon the conduct of each case.
• To represent the Council at Court hearings and to instruct Counsel in relation to complex cases.
• To compile court bundles with legal clerks
• To continually monitor the inception of new legislation and case-law relevant to the post-holder’s areas of practice and to promptly advise on the implications arising.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 2 years’ experience within a Lawyer/Solicitor role or equivalent.
• Previous work experience, in particular gained within a Legal environment.
• Excellent customer service skills with proven ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), in particular when resolving complaints and other matters.
