Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a local authority in London, are looking for an experienced Service Accountant to join their team and play a crucial role in their financial operations. 

Position: Service Accountant
Rate: £35 per hour (Umbrella) 
Contract Duration: Temporary (March 2025) with Possible Extension 
Working Pattern: Hybrid - mix of home and office

Key Responsibilities:

• To provide professional financial advice and support to a service Division or Directorate based on a sound understanding of the business and the regulatory/accounting regime.
• To co-ordinate both the revenue and capital budget preparation, budget monitoring and closure of accounts work for the relevant service area.
• To coordinate the detailed revenue and capital budget preparation for the relevant service in line with the corporate timetable and process.
• To provide advice and guidance to budget managers in setting their detailed budgets, understanding their cost drivers, drawing on monitoring trends and demographic and economic data and to advise as well as undertake more in-depth budget reviews for complex, high risk or volatile budgets.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 2 years’ experience within a Procurement Project Officer role or equivalent.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Knowledge and understanding of financial management and financial processes within Local Authorities and the financial & legislative framework. 
• CCAB qualified accountant (or near finalist but with significant experience gained for the level required in this role). 
• Experience of the annual budget setting process within a local authority.
• Experience of monitoring significant capital and revenue budgets in a local authority.
