CNC & Design Technician
About the Role We are looking for a capable and motivated CNC & Design Technician to join a small, close-knit team specialising in commercial joinery and fitout projects.
This is a varied position combining design work, CNC machine operation, and hands-on workshop duties. No two projects are quite the same, making this a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to develop their skills across both the technical and practical sides of joinery manufacturing.
The ideal person will have experience with SketchUp, CAD, or similar design software, along with confidence working in a manufacturing or workshop environment. Previous joinery experience would be advantageous but isn't essential for someone with the right transferable skills and willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities - Produce and assist with designs for commercial joinery and fitout projects using SketchUp
- Interpret drawings, plans, measurements, and specifications
- Transfer existing CAD or similar design software knowledge into the company's systems and processes
- Set up, operate, and monitor a Biesse CNC machine
- Prepare CNC programs and ensure components are manufactured accurately to specification
- Carry out machine checks and make adjustments where required
- Complete quality checks on finished components
- Use hand and power tools to assist with joinery manufacturing and assembly
- Work alongside other team members to meet production and project deadlines
- Assist with general workshop duties when required
- Occasionally assist with commercial installations and deliveries to provide team cover during leave, sickness, or busy periods
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures
About You - Has experience with SketchUp, CAD, or another transferable design program
- Has CNC machine operation experience or a strong mechanical/technical aptitude
- Ideally has some knowledge or experience within joinery, cabinetry, shopfitting, or fitouts
- Has experience using hand and power tools
- Is comfortable jumping in and helping with practical workshop tasks when needed
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in producing accurate, quality work
- Can work independently while also contributing positively to a small team
- Is reliable, organised, and able to stay focused in a busy workshop
- Has a good sense of humour and enjoys working within a friendly, close-knit environment
- Is flexible and willing to help across different areas of the business when required
Hours & Flexibility Standard hours are approximately 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
There can be some flexibility around start and finish times for the right person where required.
What's on Offer? - $30.00+ per hour for the right person, based on skills and experience
- Genuine temp-to-permanent opportunity
- Long-term position with stability
- Monday-to-Friday daytime hours
- Some flexibility around working hours
- Varied commercial projects rather than repetitive production work
- Opportunity to develop further joinery and fitout knowledge
- Hands-on training and support
- Small, friendly, close-knit team environment
- A position offering a great balance between design, CNC operation, and practical workshop work
