Current opportunity
We are seeking an Accountant to join our Business Services Division. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys managing their own workflow, working directly with clients, and continuing to build strong technical and commercial skills within a supportive professional services environment.
Reporting to a Manager, you will deliver tax compliance and accounting services across a varied client base while contributing to team objectives and firm-wide initiatives.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Independently preparing income tax returns, financial statements, BAS, IAS and FBT returns for individuals, companies, trusts and partnerships
- Assisting with bookkeeping, reconciliations and payroll processing
- Managing jobs from start to finish, including drafting bills and analysing write-ons/write-offs
- Maintaining an understanding of client businesses and identifying opportunities for improvement or advisory input
- Managing workflows and proactively communicating with Managers to ensure timely reviews
- Supporting client meetings and maintaining direct client contact on approved engagements
- Assisting and mentoring junior team members where required
- Contributing to continuous improvement, training, and firm initiatives
- Building referral networks and supporting the growth of the Firm’s fee base
About you To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Progress toward CA qualification
- Prior experience in a professional services firm
- The ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong technical accounting and tax compliance skills
- Clear and professional communication with clients and colleagues
- Strong organisation and time management skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with familiarity in Xero and MYOB (desirable)
- A collaborative mindset and alignment with Nexia Canberra’s values
