Pest and Rehabilitation Labourer
Fulltime - Fixed Term contract to 30 June 2027
The Opportunity
Hinchinbrook Shire Council is seeking a Pest and Rehabilitation Labourer to join the Biosecurity Team on a fixed term contract. This position plays an important role in protecting and enhancing the Shire’s unique environment through on‑ground delivery of pest management, revegetation, coastal management and land rehabilitation programs. The role involves working in diverse and sometimes challenging environments to support ecosystem services and risk mitigation outcomes that benefit the community.

General Salary InformationThis position is classified as Level 3C under the Hinchinbrook Shire Council Local Government Officers (Stream B) Certified Agreement.
The salary is $64,816 per annum and $32.8018 per hour including construction allowance, plus superannuation.
Key Responsibilities - Undertake pest control, land rehabilitation and risk mitigation activities under general supervision;
- Assist with field inspections, application and monitoring of controls, and reporting on outcomes;
- Apply chemicals in accordance with legislative, licensing and operational requirements;
- Operate, maintain and clean specialised tools, equipment and small plant;
- Assist with nursery activities, revegetation works and vegetation management programs; and
- Work collaboratively with the Natural Assets team to support holistic landscape and rehabilitation outcomes.

Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate is a practical, safety‑focused and motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors and contributing to environmental outcomes. You will have experience in manual or field‑based work, ideally within pest management, land rehabilitation or natural resource management. You are capable of operating equipment and 4WD vehicles in challenging conditions, can follow procedures, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively within a team. A strong commitment to workplace health and safety, learning new skills and positively representing Council in the community is essential.

- Experience in undertaking manual labour or field‑based work in rehabilitation, pest control or similar activities;
- Demonstrated understanding of, or willingness to learn, chemical application and safe handling procedures;
- Sound written and verbal communication skills, including basic data collection and reporting;
- Computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft Office and willingness to use GIS or mapping software;
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety and teamwork;
- Current Queensland Commercial Operator’s Licence – Herbicides (or ability to obtain); and
- Current Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence (minimum P1)
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities. The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
