The role Working closely with partners and lawyers, you will focus on strengthening and expanding key client relationships across selected practice groups and sectors locally, regionally, and globally.
You will also play an important role in delivering initiatives that enhance the firm’s market profile and brand.
As Business Development Manager, you will drive strategic business development outcomes aligned with the firm’s APAC growth strategy.
Your responsibilities will include:
Strategic Business Development & Revenue Support
- Preparing high-quality proposals, bids, pitches, and credentials
- Developing and executing sector and practice group BD plans
- Identifying new business opportunities and growing existing client relationships across APAC
- Advising lawyers on client targeting, opportunity pursuit, and relationship development
- Leading market-facing initiatives such as events, sponsorships, and thought leadership aligned to strategy and budget
Leadership & People Management
- Managing and mentoring two direct reports
- Providing on-the-ground leadership and acting as a trusted BD advisor within the Sydney office
Collaboration & Regional Engagement
- Driving priority initiatives across the APAC region
- Acting as a key liaison for partner BD requests, connecting them with relevant regional or global teams
Marketing, Profile & Brand Management
- Overseeing the planning and delivery of Sydney-based events
- Maintaining credentials and matter information in the firm’s database
- Managing CRM processes and supporting data quality improvements
- Supporting profile-raising activities across multiple channels including digital, media, events, and thought leadership
Governance, Budget & Quality Control
- Managing BD budgets effectively and ensuring alignment with strategic priorities
- Overseeing legal directory submissions for relevant teams
- Ensuring consistency in CVs, credentials, and event support processes
About you
You will enjoy working in a collaborative, international environment and be comfortable balancing strategy with hands-on delivery.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- At least 8 years’ experience in business development
- Previous people management experience
- Experience within a law firm or professional services environment
- Familiarity with CRM systems (InterAction experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of the legal market
- Excellent project management and organisational skills
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Knowledge of key sectors or practice areas is advantageous
