Manager – Financial Accounting

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

An exciting opportunity exists for a technically strong accounting professional to join the finance team of a leading financial services organisation in Papua New Guinea.

This is a key management-level appointment suited to a qualified accountant who has developed strong technical foundations through audit, professional services, banking or a sophisticated corporate finance environment and is now looking to broaden their commercial and leadership experience.

Working closely with the Financial Controller and senior finance leadership, you will play an important role across financial control, month-end, management reporting, technical accounting and audit while gaining exposure to senior management and governance reporting.

The Role Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, reviewing and progressively leading month-end, quarterly, half-year and annual accounting processes.
• Preparing and reviewing monthly management reporting and financial analysis.
• Reviewing Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss movements and investigating unusual transactions.
• Reviewing general ledger and Balance Sheet reconciliations and ensuring discrepancies are resolved.
• Reviewing journals, accruals and month-end accounting entries.
• Supporting the preparation of half-year and annual financial statements.
• Providing oversight and support to the Accounts Payable function.
• Managing and supporting internal and external audit requirements.
• Researching and contributing to technical accounting papers and the accounting treatment of new or complex transactions.
• Supporting regulatory reporting requirements.
• Contributing to annual budgeting, planning, business cases and finance-related projects.
• Supporting the preparation of senior management, Risk Committee and Board reporting.
• Coaching and developing junior members of the finance team.

About You
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong accounting fundamentals rather than simply experience following established processes.

You will ideally possess:

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.
• CA or CPA qualification.
• Strong technical financial accounting capability.
• Big Four or other leading audit experience highly regarded.
• Experience interpreting and applying accounting standards.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journals and month-end processes.
• Experience dealing with external auditors and technical accounting queries.
• Banking or broader financial services experience would be highly regarded.
• Commercial accounting experience following professional services would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Leadership capability and the ability to coach and develop others.
• The confidence to work with senior stakeholders and challenge accounting treatments where appropriate.
