Southern Cross Care has an exciting opportunity for 2 Maintenance Officers/Gardeners to join our SCCQ family in Broken Hill, New South Wales and working across our Residential Aged Care Homes there.

- To promote flexibility, variety and to allow you the opportunity to gain experience across multiple roles in the organisation, there may be an opportunity for you to work in other Aged Care Worker roles. Any additional role/s will be subject to appropriate training, and any request will be considered based on relative business needs. Additional roles may include Personal Carer, Lifestyle, Catering Assistant/Cook and/or Domestic Assistant.
About the roleIn this important hands-on role, of a Maintenance Officer/Gardener, you will work as part of the team to ensure the general maintenance work around the home and grounds is carried out in alignment with a scheduled program. This role will also see you coordinate contractors when required and ensure all machinery and equipment is maintained in optimal operational condition. A friendly sociable personality coupled with empathy and compassion for the elderly will make you a perfect fit for this role.
Duties of the role may include:
- Assistance to site with general maintenance duties.
- Conducting regular inspections to ensure tidy and well-maintained site to support all activities.
- General maintenance & repairs to buildings and infrastructure
- Maintenance of up-to-date inventory of all equipment including adhering to preventative maintenance program of all equipment.
- Horticultural and ground development, maintenance and monitoring to maximise seasonal conditions.
- Trees and shrubs pruning.
- Mowing of lawns, edging, fertilising and weeding.
- Clearing and removal of garden refuse.
- Paths, drains and edge maintenance and repair when needed.
- Assessing and prioritising daily work order requests and managing timely completion of each order.
- Other maintenance/gardening duties as required
What will you bring to the role? - Maintenance and/or Trade qualification (desirable)
- Previous knowledge and experience in horticulture and/or general and commercial maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to work from manuals and drawings (desirable)
- Demonstrated problem solving and a “can do” attitude
- Exceptional people and interpersonal skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Strong decision-making and time management skills
- Ability to work as part of a team but also be capable of working autonomously
- You will be required to work 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday including (rotating) shift work as the facility operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
