Southern Cross Care QLD have an opportunity for a Full-time Gardener/Maintenance Officer to join our team at our Stretton Gardens Residential Aged Care Home.

About the role:
Reporting to the Residential Manager, this hands-on role is responsible for keeping our site safe, well-presented, and running smoothly. You will support the day-to-day maintenance of our buildings, equipment, gardens, and outdoor spaces, helping to create a welcoming environment for residents, families, staff, and visitors.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be someone who is approachable, reliable and brings enthusiasm, and a can-do attitude to your work
. Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): - Regular communal area checks to ensure spaces are clean, safe, and well maintained.
- Ongoing care and presentation of gardens and outdoor areas.
- Lawn mowing, edging, fertilising, and weed control.
- Pruning of trees, shrubs, and hedges.
- Seasonal planting and garden bed maintenance.
- Monitoring plant health and irrigation needs.
- Undertaking general maintenance and minor repair work across the site.
- Maintenance of paths, drains, fences, and retaining walls.
- Managing and prioritising maintenance requests/work orders.
- Assisting with preventative maintenance of equipment and tools.
- Maintaining accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Coordinating external contractors for servicing and specialised work.
- Obtaining quotes and arranging works in line with procurement processes.
- Waste removal (green waste and general site upkeep).
- Supporting site operations including minor furniture moves and setup.
What you will bring - Proven gardening/horticultural experience with strong hands-on skills.
- Experience in general property or commercial maintenance (desirable).
- Trade or maintenance qualification (Cert III or above) – desirable.
- Current First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, can-do attitude.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Experience coordinating contractors (desirable).
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands.
