This is far more than a technical consultancy role.
You'll combine technical excellence with client leadership, taking ownership of complex planning-stage lighting projects while helping develop a growing team and influencing the future of this important service area.
For an ambitious professional, this role offers a genuine pathway into leadership.
The Opportunity
Working across a wide variety of residential, commercial, infrastructure and public realm developments, you'll deliver Lighting Impact Assessments, Lighting Strategies and planning-stage exterior lighting designs that balance safety, sustainability, biodiversity and planning compliance.
You'll become the trusted technical advisor for a major national client, working alongside planners, architects, ecologists, landscape architects and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver practical, high-quality lighting solutions.
You'll also play an important role in mentoring junior engineers, developing technical standards and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

- Collaborate with planners, architects, ecologists, landscape architects and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Present technical recommendations confidently to clients and stakeholders.

- Mentor graduates and junior consultants as the team continues to grow.
- Support business development by identifying opportunities to add value for existing clients.
- Contribute to the development of internal technical standards and best practice.
About You We're looking for an experienced lighting professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Five or more years' experience in exterior lighting design, lighting impact assessment or planning-stage lighting consultancy.
- Proven experience producing Lighting Impact Assessments and Lighting Strategies.
- Strong understanding of exterior lighting design principles.
- Excellent knowledge of ILP Guidance Notes, BS 5489 and current environmental lighting guidance.

- A collaborative approach with experience mentoring or supporting junior colleagues.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Membership of the Institution of Lighting Professionals (or working towards membership) would be advantageous.
More Than Technical Expertise Our client is looking for someone who takes pride in delivering exceptional work while building lasting client relationships.
You'll be someone who can explain complex technical issues clearly, enjoys working collaboratively and wants to make a genuine contribution to the future success of the business.
What's On Offer In return, you'll receive:
- Highly competitive salary.
- Annual performance bonus.
- Flexible hybrid working.
- Company pension and comprehensive benefits package.
- Ongoing CPD and professional development support.
- Professional memberships supported.
- Genuine autonomy and responsibility.
- The opportunity to become the technical lead for a major national client.
- Clear progression towards Principal Consultant or Team Leadership.
Your Future This role doesn't have a fixed ceiling.
As the Lighting Impact & Planning team continues to grow, you'll have the opportunity to build and mentor your own team, influence technical standards and establish yourself as one of the UK's leading specialists in planning-stage exterior lighting.
